INFORMATION ABOUT GORGONA ISLAND NATIONAL NATURAL PARK

In spite of its size, Gorgona has a great richness in fauna. It´s an excellent place for Scuba diving and likewise a privileged  location for Humpback whale watching between the months of July and October. Its sea is frequently visited by dolphins, porpoises, cachalots, Humpback whales, seawolves, and about 10 shark species. Anyway, during diving you may see whiteteep reef sharks, Whale sharks and sometimes Hammerhead sharks. Giant pacific groupers make beating faster the heart of any diver.

Sea turtles and large fish schools like jacks or barracudas may be observed very regularly under water. With some luck encounters with Giant manta rays are possible.

LOCATION:  In the Pacific Ocean, 56 km, 1 hour and a half by ship from Guapi, Cauca State, max. height 330 m at Cerro de la Trinidad.

CLIMATE: warm humid, 27 ° C approximately.

ECOSYSTEM:  Coral reefs and tropical rain forest.

EXTENSION: 61, 687 hectares , including the surrounding marine area.

HOW TO GET TO GORGONA ISLAND

You must reach Guapi airport on the Colombian Pacific coast and from there will be organized the transfers to the island. The staff of the park administration will pick you up in the airport and help you with mototaxi (lsimilar to Thai tuc tuc's, takes approx 20 minutes each way) transfer to the harbour and boat transfer to Gorgona island (approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes each way). Viceversa of course its the same system.

Please not that this transfers for individual and groups up to 5 travellers are only possible Mondays and Fridays.

Daily flights operate between Cali to Guapi and from Guapi to Cali with the airline Satena. You may book by yourself with credit card on the webpage www.satena.com to get the lowest far or we may organize the flights for you. We charge an additional administration fee per flight.

This flights allow only 15 kg mainluggage and 5 kg handluggage, thats why the Gorgona diving packages always includes BCD, Regulator, Fins and Mask.

Water temperature: 20-28° C depending on the season.

Dive Spots: 8 open for public

Distance: 10 to 20 minutes by boat.

Depths:  Between 12 to  33 meters / 36 to 108 ft.

Tanks: Aluminium 80 ft3, 11.3 Liter, 200 Bar/3000 PSI, INT,  bring your DIN Adapter

Nearest Hiperbaric Chamber: Navy Hospital at Bahía Malaga Navy Base.

• Bring your dive certification and logbook
• We stronly recommend diving insurance, we may organize a local dive insurance with limited coverage.
• BCD, Regulator and Fins/Mask/Snorkel are included, please let us know your sizes. Wet suit may be rented additionaly on the island.
